Being an evergreen hub, thyme has several uses which include medicinal, ornamental as well as culinary uses etc. Being a relative of Oregano genus (scientifically known as Origanum), thyme belongs to the mint family. The most common which is found all over the world is known as Thymus vulgaris. Being a simple herb, it has high potential to treat different types of disease by affecting several physiological activities of our body. 

Though there are several benefits which we can avail from thyme, some of the most common benefits are described in the following:
·         Anti-Carcinogenic:  The most interesting property which is revealed by the research workers of Celal Bayar University in Turkey is that the thyme has anti carcinogenic property. Wild thyme facilitates the cell deaths of the breast cells which are affected by cancer. The essential thyme oils have a high potential to kill 98% of human cells which are affected by breast cancer whereas the others can only kill 0.05% of them. Some other studies show that these essential oils can also cure oral as well as ovarian cancer.
·         Consists of nutrients: The essential oil o thyme not only consists of carvacrol, borneol, geraniol, and thymol but also vitamin k, iron, manganese, and calcium. The research workers are now trying to produce organic food preservatives from the essential oil derived from it.
·         Great Source of Iron: Iron is the main constituent of the red blood cells. Apart from the proper supply of iron we can’t survive. The thyme acts as a great source of iron. It has enough potential to provide 20% of iron which is required by an adult in a day just by a table spoon dose. Thus it not only provides us more energy to work but also prevent the disease like anaemia, exhaustion etc.
·         Boosts skin health: Research workers of Leeds Metropolitan University, England recently revealed that thyme has enough potential to fight with bacteria which are responsible for the acne. Thus it boosts our skin health without any inflammatory effect like other chemical products.
·         Maintains bone health: Being a rich source of vitamin K, calcium, iron, and manganese, it plays an important role to provide proper nutrients which are required for the bone health.
·         Anti-septic in nature: It is recently reported that Caryophyllene and Camphene are the 2 main substances present in the thyme which are responsible for the anti-septic property of thyme oils. Due to this property, thyme oils have enough capability to destroy germ which may affect the wounded part of body.
·         Alleviates Indigestion: The thyme tea is recommended by the natural healer as it can facilitate good digestion as well as has enough capability to reduce gas as well as bloating.

·         Helps with coughs, colds, and more: Due to the anti-biotic as well as antiseptic property, thyme tea with sweetened honey have an immense in the prevention of frequent attacks of coughs, colds etc. Apart from this thyme sometimes helps to prevent not alleviate arthritis and gout as well as lowers the excessive uric acid amount.
