SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF SJOGREN SYNDROME


The disorder of the immunity system caused by sjogren syndrome is identified by dry eyes and dry mouth. Following into other disorder of the immunity system, usually the mucous membranes and moisture secreting glands of the eyes and mouth are affected. Tear glands and saliva secreting glands have lower secretions. Sjogren syndrome may be acquired at any age and some people may be at the age or over 40 at the time of diagnosis. This disease shows sexual biasness that’s why found mostly in women. The exact cause of Sjogren is still unknown, however medical experts believe it could be inherited. The white blood cells of the body attack the moisture producing glands. This syndrome can cause major complications all over the body. 

It causes dysfunction of organs such as the kidney, gastrointestinal system, liver, lungs, blood vessels, pancreas and the central nervous system. It is the most prevalent disease and 9 out of 10 patients are found to be women. This is a systemic disease. The disease was first identified by in 1933 by Dr. Henrick Sjogren. It may also lead to problems such as ulcers and tooth decay. In some severe cases there might be a requirement for medication and or surgery. This can also lead to permanent loss of eyesight.

Being an acute disorder of the human immune system this disease shows some severe signs as well as symptoms. From this signs and symptoms we can easily recognize this disease.  Severity of the symptoms differs along with the type of this disorder. 

The symptoms which common in the affected person by this disease are described in the following in brief:

·         Dry eyes: There might be a burning sensation in the eye, it might get itchy, it might feel like there is some dirt in the eye at all times. If the person who is affected by this disease is not bring treated on time then it can lead to the complete loss of the eye sight which is not curable by any means.
·         Dry mouth: The mouth might feel like cotton and speaking or swallowing becomes very difficult. These symptoms may be found in the early stage of this disease.
·        Joint pains: There might be severe joint pains, swelling and stiffness of bones and movements of daily functions become a huge task accompanied by pain. Patient needs to take some pain killer medicine to get rid of this pain for a short period of time.
·        Swelling of the salivary glands: the salivary glands begin to swell and are located just behind the jaw and front of the ear makes it tremendously painful.
·         Rashes: Skin rashes and dry skin leading to irritation and discomfort. Scratching or rubbing of these rashes might lead to infections.
·         Vaginal dryness: The vaginal region in females might become dry and makes daily activities very uncomfortable.
·        Dry cough: There a never ending cough that lingers all day and night long making breathing and speech very difficult.

·        Fatigue: Continuous tiredness and exhaustion and inability to perform at par with a normal and regular human.
