Signs and Symptoms of Zygomycosis

Zygomycosis is a general term refers to the infection which is generally caused by the bread mold fungi of the zygomycota phylum. Zygomycosis may also be divided in some other types according to type of the causative agents. The mucormycosis (after Mucorales), phycomycosis (after Phycomycetes) and basidiobolomycosis (after Basidiobolus) belong to the general disease known as Zygomycosis. All of those diseases may be life threatening as well as severe too if not treated in proper time after the exposure to the causative agent.

The causative agents usually found in the environment either in the soils or in the dusts and they are also thermo tolerant that’s why that does not get destroyed even in quite high temperature.

If the spores of the causative agent enter into the human body at the time of breathing, the infection appears in the sinus portion of the respiratory tract whether if those spores ingested they may affect the gastrointestinal tract within a short period of time. The causative agent may enter into the human body by penetrating the injured part of the body. The outbreak of this disease mainly occurs after the natural disaster when the soil or any other vegetative substances enter into the wounded body portion of the human.

This disease can be diagnosed by the visualization of its general symptoms at the early stage of the infection though biopsy of culture of the causative organism can be done to detect this disease. There are several techniques for the treatment of this disease among them antifungal drug therapy as well as surgery to remove the infected tissue are the most effective two.

The diseases which can be diagnosed by expert visualization surely have some unique symptoms. In this disease, the symptoms appear within a short period of the exposure of the causative agent.

Some of the common symptoms which are appeared due to the infection of the causative agent are described in the following:
