Psoriasis is an auto immune disorder in which the skin and joints of the human body become affected the malfunction of the immune system of human body. It is an inflammatory skin disorder in which the skin cells replicates in eight times faster rate than the rate of normal replication of the skin cells causing cells build up on the skin surface, forming thick patches or plaques or red sores (lesions), covered with flaky, silvery white dead skin cells like scales. This disorder is a chronic recurring condition varies from minor localized patches to severe infection covering whole body too. Finger nails and toe nails may be frequently affected, can be seen as isolated finding. 

Psoriasis can be caused due to the inflammation of the joint most commonly known as psoriatic arthritis. The actual cause for the outbreak of this disease is still unknown though it is seemed that there is some other genetic cause involved for the outbreak of this disease. Several mental as well as external factors are responsible of this disease like stress, excessive alcohol consumption as well as smoking too. The medicines beta blockers & lithium salt usually triggers this disease. 

There are several types of psoriasis which are found till now such as: i)Plaque Psoriasis ii) Flexural Psoriasis iii) Guttate Psoriasis iv) Pustualr Psoriasis v) Nail Psoriasis vi) Psoriatic Arthritis vii) Erythrodermic Psoriasis. The diagnosis of this disease is usually based on the visual observation of the appearance of the skin as there is no special blood test is effective to identify this disease. Sometimes biopsy of skin or scraping is also done to detect this disease. There are some other triggering factors for this disease are climate and temperature change, tobacco, skin damage, exposure to UV light etc.

As this disease can be detected by visual observation of the skin so there are some easily observable signs as well some other symptoms are present for this disease which can be easily found in the body of the affected person. 

Some of the unique symptoms of this disease are discussed in brief in the following:
 
  • ·         Formation of Plaque: A scaly, red raised psoriatic patch of the skin appears at the preliminary stage of this disease which is known as plaque. The appearance of this symptom may be mild to severe which varies from person to person.
  • ·         Numerous small oval tear drop shaped spots appear over large areas of the human body such as trunk, limb as well as scalp too.
  • ·         Appearance of inflammatory patches particularly in skin folds, around genitals, armpits, under oversized stomach and breast may be found in the body of the person affected by it.
  • ·         Red and tender bumps which are filled with non-infectious pus may indicate the appearance of this disease.
  • ·         Discolouring under the nail plate, pitting of the nails as well as line going across the nails may be found.
  • ·         Sausage shaped swelling of fingers as well as nails may be occurred which is known as dactylitis.
  • ·         Widely spread inflammation as well as exfoliation of the skin over most of the body surface occurred.
