Insomnia is an infuriating disease causing sleeping disorder in which either the ability to fall asleep gets decreased or the patient cannot stay asleep as long as desired. Patients affected by insomnia usually do not feel refreshed after getting up from the sleep and same feelings continues the whole day. Insomnia not only affects the feeling and the mood but also it affects health, performance of work in daily life and quality of life. 

Though eight to nine hours sleeping at night is sufficient for any adult, some persons suffer from insomnia occasionally but in some case the persons have a long term problem of insomnia known as chronic insomnia. In some cases insomnia appears as primary problem but sometimes it appears as secondary problem causing by another disease or as side effect of any medication. This disease is also known as sleeplessness or sleeping sickness.Functional impairment while awake appears in the later stage of this disease. Persons having any age may be affected by this disease but the older persons get more affected by this disease. Usually three types of insomnia are found now a day on the basis of the persistence of the disease. 

This disease is caused by some of the specific reasons such as advanced age, history of depression, stress,noise of surrounding environment , extreme temperatures, sleep and wake schedule problems.
                    
Like other disease this disease has also some unique signs and symptoms through which this disease is detected by observation only without any physiological test. Some of the important symptoms of the Insomnia are discussed in the following:
 
  • The most common symptom of this disease is difficulty of falling asleep as well as finding comfortable position for sleeping. That’s why this disease is also known as sleeping sickness.
  • Person who is affected by this disease if started working at night they cannot return to sleep in that night.
  • After getting up in the early morning patients does not feel refreshed and the same feeling remains whole the day.
  • As the affected patients cannot sleep properly at night so drowsiness of the patient remains whole the day and anxiety can also be assumed by the behavior of the patient.
  • Patients suffering from this disease usually wakes up early in the morning as they cannot properly in the night.
  • Unnecessary movements of the patient can be seen during night in the bed as the patient cannot sleep properly.
  • Prolonged condition of this disease not only affects the mind but also affects health a lot. Patient totally lost the spirit of working during day time also.
  • Insomnia prevents the gastro intestinal system from proper working. The hormone secretion also becomes irregular in the body of the patient. If this condition remains same for a long term basis finally results into many other gastro intestinal problems.
  • Patients find it difficult to pay attention or focus on a subject or remember any earlier events.
  • Someone with insomnia will often take 30 minutes or more to fall asleep and may get only six or fewer hours of sleep for three or more nights a week over a month or more.
