Eid al-Fitr
Eid al-Fitr is the holy fiesta of Muslims which is celebrated after 30 days of fasting in the Holy month of Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr is also known by many different names which include Lesser Eid, Sugar Feast, Feast of Breaking the Fast, etc. After the fasting is completed in the month of Ramadan incorporating of 29 to 30 days, Eid al-Fitr is celebrated and Muslims are allowed to conclude the blessed fasting month. In particular, it’s totally prohibited to fast on the day of Eid al-Fitr, however a Muslim can normally started fasting after Eid al-Fitr depending upon ones will to do so.
The beginning of Eid al-Fitr is marked by praying special 2 rakat Salat in the morning. This special Salat is valid only in congregation in an open field or in a large hall; however open field is more preferred. There are extra six Takbirs in this Salat unlike all other Salat’s where only one Takbir takes place. Three Takbirs are said at the beginning of Salat and rest of the three are said on the start of second rakat. However Sunni Muslims usually say 12 takbris distributed into seven in the beginning of first rakat and five on the beginning of second rakat. On Eid al-Fitr, Muslims wish each other by saying “Eid Mubarak” or “Blessed Eid”. After the Salat ends, Imam presents a sermon to the crowd and concludes the Eid Salat.
It’s mandatory for Muslims to give Sadqa Fitr before offering Salat, besides that Muslims do excessive charity during the Holy Month of Ramadan and especially on the day of Eid al-Fitr by giving Zakat, etc. According to Muslim belief, the more you donate to the needy ones, the more Allah gives you. This noble act of charity has been highly recommended by Islam and commands all the Muslims to do this noble deed very often.
Muslims are recommended by Prophet Muhammad pbuh to wear best clothes on the day of Eid. Thus all the Muslims get engaged in shopping carnival few days before Eid and grab the best possible clothes to look beautiful. Eid al-Fitr being the joyful occasion of Muslims, Muslims enjoy eating favourite foods, sweets, etc and celebrate this day with their families. The elder member of Muslim brotherhood offer gifts and money to the children for enjoyment and is known as Eidi.
During the rest of the day, Muslims visit relatives and distribute gifts and blessings to each other. Different delicious dishes are prepared at every home and eaten by the family together at lunch as well as dinner.
