SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF PEMPHIGUS
This is a skin disorder that causes blisters on skin and mucous membranes. There are usually two types of Pemphigus found in the body of affected persons. Vulgaris is the most common form of this disease and Foliaceus. The blisters are usually watery with a thin outer covering of skin. It is a group of anti-immune blistering disease. If not treated this could lead to fatal infection due to sores. The most common treatment is steroids. Pain is the most common symptom of this disease. This disease has even reached dogs, cats, horses and other pets. This can sometimes turn out to be life threatening due to severity of the infection. Diagnosis requires proper examination of the skin or mucous membrane by medical professionals. The skin biopsy is taken from the edge of the blister. This disease is very contagious as it can spread very fast due to its watery fluid in the form of blisters that are present which might burst due to its thin surface. Pemphigus vulgaris has several forms such as; Pemphigus vegetans of hallopeau, of Neumann. Pemphigus Foliaceus has several types such as; senear-usher syndrome, endemic foliaceus. Para neoplastic is also another form of this disease. IgA pemphigus also has several forms such as; sub corneal pustular, intra-epidermal neutrophilic, drug induced.
The disease Pemphigus has also some unique signs as well as symptoms which arise due to the malfunction of the different physiological activities. Being an acute skin disorder this disease usually diagnosed by its signs as well as symptoms in the preliminary conditions. Some of mostly reported symptoms by the person who are affected by this disease are described in the following:
- Blisters : These appear usually on the mouth, hands, etc. These can be very painful and make movement and daily activities very difficult to perform, leading to a feeling of helplessness and depression.
- Blisters on back and chest which are crusty and itchy. Sometimes these blisters appear on such portions of the back and chest that it causes tremendous discomfort and pain. Resting or laying back or sleeping becomes very uncomfortable and painful.
- Sores appear due to infected blisters or sometimes due to scratching or rubbing. This too confines movement and makes the patient very irritable and aggressive.
- Sores being to spread rapidly and to other areas of the body as well. The fluid contained in the sores help spread the disease even more quickly.
- Fever : Body temperature may rise above normal and body feels weak. Usually the body temperature of the affected person varies from 99°F to 101°F. Doing normal activities becomes a major task.
- Severe chills and a cold sensation might be felt, this happens due to the rise in body temperature.
- Body pain and achy joints and muscles appears in the later stage of this disease. This is due to weakness and inability to move and function. This is a severe pain and might lead to patients yelling on the top of their voice.
